JUST SAY NO: DO NOT RECCOMEND FOR ANYONE!

Years at this apartment: 2003 - 2004
My mother stayed at these apartments for 3 years. She really had no problems other than wehen a friend of mine would come over, there car got broken into twice. Car break-ins are a big problem at this apartment so lock-up and leave no valuables outside in your car. Also, we received flyers every now and then stating their had been a break-in or an armed robbery. It didn't happnen alot but it did happen.
Beware of management however as the stips to move here and move out are costly. First off, if you move-in and someone tells you how they will charge you should you renew, get it in writing. My mother was a loyal tenant here and after they promised to keep her rent the same, tehy jacked it up market value in order for her to stay there. I figured surely the same thing would not happen to me after I was assured by a staff member and the manager if I signed a 6 mos. lease, they would go ahead and keep my rent at $515 a month. The final of March, I receive a call stating they can no longer accomadate that offer and that I will have to pay my rent plus $15. Thats not too stiff but considering you pay a #35.00/month water/trash bill for everyone else in you complex/floorplan , its a bad deal all together. I was cramped up in a small 550sq foot 1 bedroom 1 small small bath for a year. I was ready to spread out some w more and wanted to do it here but the 2 bedrooms are so pricey. Yes, the landscaping is beautiful here and the founts are a great atrtaction in the summertime, but these apartments are not all they are cracked up to be. The maintenence is ppor. We had to have several different works come to our apartment to fix toilet problems, as well as kitchen sink problems that should have been resolved the first time. Not to mention, the first day I moved in, I was almost at a breaking point when I saw the stains on the carpet. The first thing I did was go out and buy a BIG rug to cover the large stain in the loving room. In fact, the staff told me to just get a rug to vcover it up or put my couhc over it''' The management and staff are not easy to work with either. The black mold is a big problem in all months of the year. The railings and breezeways need more maintence and fres hpaint. More attention is put on the shrubs, flowers and fountains than the tenats actual apartments which is sad. They can win all the beautifucation awards they want bu I will never go back. The pools stay packed with people who don't even live there and noise is a BIG BIG problem at the apartments. You constantly heear loud cars and music systems blaring at all hours of the day an night which becomes quite frustrating. Along with tht, while the location is good (close to a gas station and a Food Lion grocery store) its also horrible in the spring and summer months when the smell around the apartments is aweful from the water sewage treatment plant nearby.
Finally, parking is a huge problem here. I often see 4 or 5 cars taking up all the spots from 1 apartment. Especially our neighbors who happened to be drug users. We even complained to our apartment about them leaving notes to do with drug purchasing on their front door and a car hood that sat on the breezeway for months. Total embarrasment for when we have company over.
Finally, the electricity bill is outrageous here. For a very small 1 bedroom, my electricity bill in the winter months was $110.00. I called NES thinking there was a mistake but they said the electricity bill was at the highest around $130.00 there. It stays freezing cold in the living room due to the extremely poor insulation in there plus the huge gaps around the patio door. I reccomend placing towels around the corners and bottom to help.
Overall, I don't recommend this place much at all. I liked staying over at my mothers place but once you actually live there fulltime and deal with the headaches, there is just no point in it. My lease finally expires in 1 day though I hav already moved out. I should know in a few days if they are going to try and charge me for the filthy stained carpet I moved in with.
