A Great Way to Learn Nashville

I relocated in N'ville and decided to try 'high rise' living at The Cumberland. I have found the staff persons to be very professional, courteous and helpful. My neighbors are non-intrusive and generally quiet. The facilities are impeccably maintained and you really can't beat the idea of getting on an elevator at any time of the day and heading to the workout room. The underground parking (for which you pay an additional monthly fee) is convenient, but can be challenging as more and more people purchase large vehicles. I don't think The Cumberland had some of these large SUVs and vans in mind when they built the parking structure. It's also a bummer for friends to find parking - but thaht's the nature of downtown Nashville. The 6th and Church location is very convenient and the elevators make the property manageable for people at different life-stages.
When I have worked from home, I've found the building to be noisey (I guess there's no convenient time to drill and bang around as you remodel the condomeniums on the top floors) during the day.
Despite the efforts of The Cumberland, the building simply is old. At this point, for the price we pay, I would have liked upgraded kitchen and bath fixtures and overhead lighting. Additionally, although it hasn't happened to me yet, it seems as though the corporation is comfortable with raising rents. This is problematic because residents already pay a premium.
Unitl HG Hill opened down the street, the area was severly wanting when it came to supporting residents of the downtown area. This grocery store should signal the beginning of better things for the neighborhood.
Overall, if your wallet allows, The Cumberland is a great way to learn the new city of Nashville. If nothing else, consider it for a short-term lease and re-evaluate your living options as you go.
