A nice corner of the woods

The Lakes of Bellevue is set in a nice isolated cove in the woods. This is the hilly part of Nashville, and the prettiest part of the city. Most of the apartments are sheltered from the road and the noise. It is ringed by magnificent old oak forest. If you are adventurous you can walk up into the surrounding forest and find the ridgetop forest is very extensive and you could walk for hours (though there are no trails, a lot of poison ivy, and you probably would be trespassing on other property eventually).

The units are a little small for the price, but a selection of sizes is available. I was always a little worried about these wooden apartments, which have fireplaces.

I enjoyed the three pools. One was a lap pool where you could really swim. It could have been open for a longer season though. The recreation center was nothing to be proud of, with many broken machines, but better than nothing. The loop road through the complex is great for walking or jogging.

The complex is very dog-friendly. That means a lot of poopies are about. But don't blame it all on the dogs. When I lived here the management would feed corn to the Canada Geese that live in the lakes. The geese poop everywhere and turn the lake water green. They congregated in the road around the shed where the food is kept, at a busy intersection. By the end of the winter many geese were maimed with broken wings because they had been grazed by cars. It is a bad situation, stop feeding them!

If you live in TN, learn to recognize the brown recluse spider. I found three in my apartment, more at work. I was never bitten. They are not agressive, and they stay away from people. But they are common and a fact of life in TN. You are living in the woods in the heart of their native range. They are tough buggers and cannot be easily killed by sprays. You can buy sticky traps. On the bright side, the spiders are the ultimate roach-killers! I never saw a roach.

Enjoy living with nature at the Lakes of Bellevue, or live somewhere in the city!
