The Lakes of Bellevue is a beautiful apartment community. The grounds are well kept, and there are numerous amenities that any renter would love (3 pools, hot tub, picnic areas, two lakes, "dog park", etc.) There are also more than enough parking spaces for the residents (though the proximity of the spaces to your unit varies by building). The staff is fairly competent, but I guess a truly great staff is hard to come by. There is an exercise facility, but I have nothing good or bad to say about it. Morning traffic from Bellevue can get to be a bit annoying (especially on rainy days), but an average travel time of 17 to 20 minutes to get downtown isn't horrible.

I lived at The Lakes for 1 year, and my only major complaint was about spiders. Since the complex is located in a heavily wooded area, a few bugs are to be expected. However I was not at all pleased to find out that my house guests were Brown Recluse Spiders. Apparently BRS' are endemic to Tennessee, and many locals consider their presence to be commonplace. I personally believe, however, that I had an infestation. I reported the problem to the staff, and after a slight hassle they subsequently scheduled an exterminator. The exterminator, however, only sprayed for the spiders once (which only seemed to cause the spiders to become more active) and set some traps. She came back to check the traps once (which were full) and did nothing more than leave me more traps that I was supposed to set up myself, LOL. Luckily, I didn't notice my spider problem until a month before my lease ended. Needless to say, I moved from The Lakes and to a less wooded area of Nashville.

To be honest, I wanted to move to a complex that was closer to my school, but the BRS issue only concreted my desire to escape from The Lakes and from Bellevue altogether. I am from an urban, metropolitan city, however I enjoyed most of the time I spent at The Lakes of Bellevue. On the other hand, I was thoroughly annoyed and bothered by the presence of the BRS'. If you are accustomed to living in such close proximity with similar creatures, then this might be the place for you. But if you are bothered by the woods and all things in it...look elsewhere.

P.S. -- I have friends who live also live in the complex, as well as friends who live in other parts of Bellevue, and none of them have noticed the presence of BRS'. However, I refuse to believe that I was the only one blessed with the presence of these beautiful creatures, LOL. It was probably my OCD that made me notice them. If you aren't observant then you probably have nothing to worry about...

P.P.S. -- If you think it is silly to complain about BRS' just google them...

Were you in apt 119 by any chance? I had a horrible recluse infestation while I lived there, was bitten, and the complex REFUSED to send anyone to do anything about it. I even took specimens down to the office which had been positively identified as recluses, and the manager said he didn't believe that they were and refused to call the exterminator.

I was in building 900 and there was a bad infestation in my apartment as well. It seems that once they're present, you really can't get rid of them. The traps that they set in my apartment were full all the time. The exterminator even said he hadn't seen an infestation that bad before. I lived with them for about 4 or 5 months. You learn to be very careful where you stick your hands. But it got so bad that I put sticky pads all along my bed so they wouldn't be in my bed. When it was time to resign the lease, I looked at lots of other places but couldn't afford them with my salary and having a pet. I decided to re-sign with Lakes but made them let me move to a different building (which could have been a real gamble on my part). Fortunately, there were no spiders in the new apartment (building 2500) and we cleaned up all my stuff really well so none would be transported to the new apartment.
