Want to believe in changes...

Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009

When I moved in here in the summer of 2008, it was fairly quick and I was given limited info. I wasn't taken on a tour of the model, I had only seen the pics online (of the model). The day that I signed my lease was the day before the move in day of Saturday. I had to do a walk through and fill out my punch list. When I walked in, I could have sworn I was in my mother's apartment from 1978. The fixtures, old. The porous counter tops, old, ragged, and used as a cutting board from the previous residents. The linoleum, old and stained. The cabinets, BEYOND old. I cried regretting signing that lease 15 minutes earlier. With a good support group, being interior savvy, I figured that it could be worse... maybe not. The next day I proceeded to move in. The air was on, but it was hard to cool because of all of the "in and out." By the time my crew left, my parents and I decided to make a pizza. Having settled down for about an hour, I realized that it was still extremely hot. I called maintenance, and within a flash Joe showed up. He was on call and out to dinner, but filled my ac until to the tune of ice cold air. By Sunday morning I woke in a sweat and had to call again. Joe was back over within 5 minutes of my call. He filled the ac again. By that evening it began to warm back up. Joe told me that they would get me a new unit ASAP. That Monday Joe and Mike showed up early and ready to install. Within an hour I has COLD air. Those guys were brilliant. I told Mike that I was concerned that I made a mistake and paying the $1000 almost seemed worth it to get out. Mike told me not to worry, that things will get better. Wednesday morning I woke to water "raining" in my apartment. I hadn't even been here for a week, and had cried everyday. This was the icing on the cake. The third floor's water heater burst while he was on vacation. I called, and Mike came to the rescue. Again he reassured that I didn't make a mistake by moving in. My neighbors were moving out because they said since the new management took over they were no longer happy. No more complex mixers, rude staff, and a flurry of "thug types" were moving in, and the upgraded kitchen/bathroom process had ceased. What had I done... Well, I made my apartment my own, I made the ugly dated 20 year old cabinets look newer than they were going to, I hung all of my art, and made it a home. For the most part I've been happy as Mike said I would be.
Management and staff have come and gone. The new manager seems to "want to make a difference." Anything that's come up, I've gone directly to him and he seems willing to make the requests a priority. I know that I can count on Mike and Diane when he/she are on call or the one(s) to come take care of "issues" I may have in my apartment. I spoke to one of the newer guys regarding a problem and it remained a problem until I spoke to the manager. I don't like change and I don't like turnover and it just means that things will remain stagnant. I understand that more money is to be made when at full capacity too, but I also believe in keeping the tenants to a certain level when signing new leases. I've watched a lot of people come and go in a years time and that makes me nervous. I believe keeping the Section 8 types in the Section 8 apartments down the road is the way to go... don't bring them here. As long winded as this is, as a prospective tenant I feel that it's only fair to know how things are kept here. Take it for what it is. I over came the worst possible move in and have felt quite at home as an end result.

Pros:
Mike and Diane are great maintenance staff, can always count on them to solve the problem.
Dog friendly. If you're not fond of dogs or have a problem dog, this place is not for you.
Handful of long standing residents that are friendly.
New manager a plus.
Quiet on some levels. Especially in a more adult building.

Cons:
Bad "seed" moving in.
Front pool is a nightmare of young adults and kids that enjoy rough play and loud activity.
Insects love you more than you love them. BUT do let the office know, and they'll schedule a spray.
Lighting isn't so great with the "bad see" walking around casing out cars and whatnot.
Living by a pool can mean no parking for you especially when outsiders come to swim.

For the most part, for the money and some of the amenities... this place is for you. There are much worse places for apartment living!
