Lived in Barbizon x 3 years. Apartment down the street, owned by Village at Vanderbilt. Recently moved out in 2007. I would say the management has gone down during the 3 years I have been there; when I first moved in, they were good, maintenance was prompt and they were pleasant. The longer I stayed, the worse things got. I guess once they have you there's no incentive for them to do an excellent job, but as a tenant I'm pretty darn good (don't part, pay my rent, keep my place neat, etc.). One of the best things is the abundant parking. Also, if you go to school or work at Vandy it might be worth the money, otherwise I think not. However, if you are other than a Vandy student I don't see the point in living here - you could live elsewhere near by for the same money and get a better apartment (even close to Vandy). Noise from the bar that moved in next door to Barbizon last year is TERRIBLE. Blasting music until 1:30 nightly every Friday and Saturday, and until midnight on Sundays all during the warm months of the year. Friend on the other side of the building says it isn't so bad, but from my side facing the bar it's awful (and I can sleep through most things, such as street noise, ambulances, random people yelling in the middle of the night occasionally). Good things about Barbizon include you can use the pool and gym at Village at Vandy, and there is on site laundry. Still, I think you can do better in the same area around Vandy, rentwise and in terms of what you can get. They keep raising the rent as well, and I don't think it's quite worth what they are wanting to get, even given the closeness to Vandy. Also, the street and/or homeless people panhandling in front of the building and in the Barbizon parking lot has gotten more troublesome - it used to be infrequent but now it happens to me more frequently.
