Bad Place to Live

The Manhattan Apartments are formerly known as the Woodland View Apartments. They changed management, but the crappy service remains the same. I have written a review on Woodland as well; here I copied and pasted it for you to read.

-----

I lived in Woodland View for a grand total of two weeks, it was that bad. With the exception of one very nice lady who was unfortunately not running the show, the staff was incredibly rude. There were numerous problems with my apartment when I moved in, one of which was a broken door latch. These apartments are notorious for drug and gang activity, as well as catering to low-income and hispanic individuals. Over the Christmas 2005 holiday, two drug dealers were arguing over a deal at around 2:00 in the morning. When a tenant had enough and stepped outside to complain about the noise, he was shot and killed. This murder made the local news; check it out if you care to verify my story. The apartment units themselves were bug-infested, had cracked, peeling, lead-based paint and were tiny, especially the bedrooms. I lived there at the time because it was unfortunately all I could afford.

The apartments are quite old and although they have a rich history (housing workers from Oak Ridge National Laboratory back in its hay-day), they have greatly fallen from their previous splendor. The same can also be said for units known as The Plaza (both The Plaza I and The Plaza II), which are a series of 1940's-era studio apartments owned by the same management. All of these units are incredibly unsafe, which is a shame because if they were restored to their original condition, The Plaza apartments in particular would make a wonderful and quaint tourist attraction, especially considering their history (they are where the first ORNL scientists stayed as they prepared to make the bombs used in World War II). After leaving Woodland View, I moved into The Plaza I. Though it made my stomach turn to remain with the same crappy management, I had no choice to move there because, again, unfortunately it was all I could afford. I lived in these dangerous and mildew-covered apartments for three-and-a-half months, and it was a literal hell for me, a single female 20-something. One night I was followed back to my apartment by a very scary man, and on another occasion I was hit up for money by the live-in crackhead. The apartment complex did nothing for me in either case. As a result, for three-and-a-half months I ran back to my apartment complex in terror from the parking lot (a very shady alleyway) each and every night and fell asleep petrified that someone would break in the door and attack me. Most of the tenants I had contact with were pleasant (my contact was limited), but on one occasion there was a man who stood knocking on the door of a female tenant two doors down from me for over two hours. She refused to let him in, and I imagine that she was terrified and had no way to call out for help. I also did not have a phone at the time, and as a single female, I did not want to confront the man myself. One maintenance man at The Plaza was very nice and helpful. I forget his name since I have not lived there for a year-and-a-half, but it might have been -----. If you live at The Plaza and this guy is still there, go to him with any maintenance problems: he's very nice and fixes things quickly. Unfortunately I did not find out about ----- until about a month before I decided I'd had enough of The Plaza.

To sum it up, both Woodland View (a.k.a. The Manhattans) and The Plazas I and II are terrible places to live -- if you can afford to do so, please stay as far away as you can.

If you had lived ther you would know that the properties are not owned by the same company and that the Jackson Square Apts you refer too have been renovated. Get your facts straight before you spread false entries!
