Beware of this place

Years at this apartment: 2007-01-01 - 2009-01-01
I had the pleasure of living here for exactly two years. I lived in both a three bedroom unit and a one bedroom unit. Both units are very very old. The current owner has done hardly any upgrades at all to any of the units. Some of the units still have 1970s looking fridges and stoves in them and these appliances are still being used. Most of the units have really old outlets that are so loose that the adapter for a three prong still falls out of them. When I questioned the 'team' that fixes things, they told me that they don't replace the outlets, they just give us adapters to plug in our stuff. When I was in the three bedroom unit, our toliet backed up once, the drain in the shower backed up and there was a constant mold issue. The windows are atrocious and leak air like crazy in both apartments. And there are the roaches. Even with having someone come and spray the unit, they are still there. The new owners of this place should really be ashamed. Instead of taking the property and actually fixing it up and making it livable, all they are doing is slapping some new paint on the walls, putting some new carpet down and calling it 'retro' living. The staff was another issue. There were some really nice staff there, but after seeing these people there for a very short time, they would mysteriously leave and be replaced by very mean, nasty people. The receptionist that they had right before I decided to move had the personality of a piece of cardboard. When asked to speak to her manager, I was always given the run-around. And the 'polocies' in this place change constantly. When I first moved in, I was told the mateinance staff could not come in without your approval. And then it went to where they would just come in, regardless if you were sleeping, or having an orgy...etc. I was lied to about laundry facilities. Their 'facility' was a broken down washer and dryer in each buildings basement that didn't work half the time. And the city of Oak Ridge has like one Laundry Mat in the whole town, or so it seemed, so doing laundry was a nightmare for nearly two years. They were still working on a new 'facility' when I left just recently. The neighborhood and the neighbors were horrid. At all hours of the night and day, all I could hear were police/ambulance sirens, loud thumping music from cars, etc. No matter how much you complained about your neighbors, it seemed nothing was done about them. I even went as far as to call Oak Ridge Police on the -------- living next door to us and they didn't even do anything about it. (They turned their music up so loud every evening it sounded like were were living next to a club). For 415 a month, it was a dump. I would have easily paid slightly more to have had more. Even if they had set the rent to 450-85 and gutted the apartments and actually made them liveable, it would have been worth the extra dollars. On a closing note, if you have guests over a lot, beware about parking. My friend had her car towed because she stayed over three days with me. Parking is a nightmare, especially if you have some party animals in the same building with you that take ten of the spaces up. And they do enforce towing at least, but sometimes on the wrong people. Do your homework when moving to Oak Ridge. These aren't the only slum lords there either.
