Something is not right

We applied for an apartment and were told that we probably would get it. We applied other places and after a credit and criminal background check we were accepted at the other places.
But, we were told that we were not accepted at Spring Valley. We were also told that they did not make the decision and to call the number on the disapproval paper to get an answer.
When we called we were told that the company did not even complete a criminal background on us and that it is up to the complex to approve or disapprove a tenant.
The apartment complex seems okay and the management seemed nice. But something is not right. They have 100% on this site but ONLY 5 REVIEWS. That is a very low rate of reviews.
So, since others have accepted us, we were lied to, and the reviews are low. I'm wondering...Something is just not right.

I lived there for 2 1/2 years and although the apartments are old and have the typical problems that go along with that (drafty windows, etc) the manager (----) and the maintenance guys (----- and -------) do a really good job. I am really surprised by this and it makes me think something else is going on here. You should request your money back, but please don't hold this against the people that work on the property. There are things that are probably out of their control.
