Be careful what you are promised here. Get everything in writing and follow up continually or you will regret it. I moved out last Summer and was never sent a final bill for cleaning and damages. I felt that the $100 deposit I paid was sufficient but management (the assistant manager) felt the need to charge up and above this. I did not agree with this, however I would have paid if I simply would have received a statement or phone call. My account was instead turned over for collection. I called the assistant manager who stated she had no forwarding address, which seems ironic since the collection company reached me via mail and phone. Whatever the case, I paid the amount due and life goes on. I felt a bit betrayed after living at Benton for 2 years and never paying late or having lease violations. Be sure you do not make the mistake I made, call the office every day or drop by until your issue is resolved. Get things in writing.

I believe they legally are required to send you a statement within 30 days or else you have the right to recover 3 times the deposit. If they don't send you the statement within the required time, they lose the right to charge you damages. It has been a very long time since I worked in the apt industry, so I could be wrong about the amount you can recover and the time limit they have - but they absolutely have a time limit or they lose the right to charge, and you also have the right to recover some amount if they fail to send you a statement.
