Noise issues, no real broadband services, units are decent.

Where do I begin' Prices are low, and the units in and of themselves are very nice. Cielings a bit low, rooms are just a little small, but that's tolerable overtime and just by getting used to it. Parking spaces a little narrow, and no automatic garage door openers.
Chaparral Townhomes dominantly consists of black families. The children are very loud, cars drive by with excessive volume and bass. Neighbors tend to play music loud in the public, especially through open garages and open car doors. In addition, the music that is played is explicit rap and hip hop (not exactly safe around younger ears).
Loitering, congregations, and partying are frequent--past curfew. Even the Allen Police patrol this complex because the management is incompetent to enforce the policies outlined in the lease agreement.
Children and young adults frequently walk on the street and exhibit no consideration for oncoming vehicles. They ride bikes aimlessly without helmets, which makes me a bit nervous driving in and out of the complex.
DirecTV is the only television provider for this complex, due to the management's decision. This essentially disfranchises the entire community of their choice of services. Because of this decision, Comcast does not service this complex, which means no cable internet either. Too far from DSL, although some services (Covad and Speakeasy) will service you. However, there's massive amounts of line noise in this area essentially killing any chance of any broadband. The only provider is wireless, called PurelyOnline, which offers decent speeds (1400/1400) for a decent price. It's horrible for multi-person use, gaming and streaming media.
Because of the geographical disadvantages of where this community is located, DSL opportunity is gone forever. It is my sincere wish, and hope that the management opens up the complex to Comcast cable internet at the very least. We can still keep the DirecTV service, but at least I'd like for them to give us a solid internet service provider due to the DSL issue.

I'm sorry that your experience at Chaparral has been a negative one. However, being a black woman, I am slightly offended by your commentary. If there is a noise issue, comment on it. If people are not respecting curfew, by all means complain. But DO NOT comment on the race of the residents because that issue is neither here nor there. That is how stereotypes stay stereotypes because people like you cannot decipher between a problem and a racial problem. Loud music and explicit lyrics does not always equal to minorities. For future reference, comment on the problem instead of the people.

Being of minority heritage myself, I did not take the "black" coment tied to the loud rap coment. It may not have been needed in the commentray but I do not think that yelling racist everytime someone comments on the ethnic make up when it pertains to the demographics of an area is appropriate either. Many groups are all to quick to use the "race card" in an arguement when it is not material.

We were actually going to look at Chaparral this weekend. Glad that I read the reviews. I saw them on line and thought that they were nice enough though the price range made me wonder. If it looks like a duck... I have a two year old and would not dream of subjecting her or the rest of my family to this kind of living arrangement. Does not seem to be a race issue here but more of a stupidity issue - this comes with all races. |
