Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2008
I still live here a the time of writing this. I'm moving out in Oct 2008 when my lease is up. This place is all right as far as my experiences with apartments go.
THE BAD:
I read another review that mentioned shoddy construction; I agree with that.
I'm not sure if these toilets are defective, but be sure to close the lid when you flush or it will shoot toilet water at you. This is true of both the toilets.
The inspection was strange.
I received a notice on my door that I should put my pet up in a bedroom as they would be coming in to replace the air filter and check the fire extinguisher. I don't want to freak out my dog so I put her up at my parents place. I also set up a camera that streams audio/video to my office at work when it detects motion.
The fire extinguisher and the air filter are both located in the kitchen. Oddly enough 2 guys came in and went into every room in the place, both bathrooms and the outside storage on the patio.
What was the point of posting a note to put the pets up in the bedrooms and specifying an air filter and fire extinguisher check/replacement if they were going to go in every room'
There is dog crap everywhere, they even have the little bags to pick it up, but not many people seem to use it.
The gates to this place have annoying little toll booth type gates in front of the standard iron gate. Its hard to explain but these things are really annoying. If the toll booth gate goes down you have to wait for the iron gate to close before it will open back up. Everyone just drives around them, they literally serve no purpose other than to annoy you; really you should come see how ridiculous these things are.
The sprinkler system is right up on the parking lot, and goes off what seems like every morning. You will not be able to keep your car clean here unless you spend an extra $100 on a detached garage, that you cant get anyway because they are all taken.
The washer that came with my unit is powered by uranium or something, it thrashes really hard and there is no way to change it, no gentle cycle or anything like that. It has taken buttons off of several of my shirts. Bring your own washer.
Someone I talk to in passing said that their car got stolen here. This person is now in a new car. but I cant confirm that it was stolen, could have been a cover story for a repossession or something.
THE GOOD:
The folks in the office are really nice, I have never had any issue with any of them.
The unit is really nice inside. Good colors.
close to the highway.
If your coming in from highway 5 they have a little entrance 'ramp' to avoid the stoplight
I saw a review that mentioned kids everywhere, I have not seen this, maybe they all moved out. Its really quiet here.
Halogen lights, I'm not sure if this is a pro or a con, nearly all the lights are halogen. They look really nice but I haven't done any research as to what they do to an electric bill.
They have quite a few dog poop stations with trash cans and baggies.
Not a lot of traffic on Exchange.... yet.
All things considered this is a really nice place to live compared to other apartments. I have lived in 2 other complexes on McDermott in Allen, this is by far better.
