First the good:
Aspen Hills is located in Northern Arlington, which is somewhat prettier than the southern part. I moved in after seeing the "model" apartment, and it looked quite good for the price. I also received a $99 move-in special and was happy that they accepted large dogs.
I ended up paying the extra $15 a month for an apartment by the pool. It was definitely worth it in summer. The apartment was a good size and had a decent kitchen, bedroom, and walk-in closet. It was also nice to have a outdoor closet on the balcony.
Maintenance was almost always on time and management was decent. I didn't have any problem finding parking (which was free).
Then the bad:
The bathroom was a little too small, hardly any counter-space. Living by the pool can also be a disadvantage, especially when some people decide to have late night parties there. Also, in summer, many people would bring their friends and families out to the pool almost every day and drink beer in the pool; so the pool often reeked of alcohol. The bugs were also never cleaned out of the pool, so don't be surprised if bugs are floating by when you're in there.
The neighbors often leave their trash outside their doors and don't bother to carry it to the trash bins. The grounds were not well-kept, and dog owners were not good about picking up after their pets. Aspen Hills does not have a security gate and so people from the apartments next door would frequently walk into the community.
Also, I don't think this is normal, even for Texas, but my electric bill there was $100-200 per month.
Overall, I did not feel safe walking on the grounds at night. Although I loved the apartment, the neighbors made it a bad place to live in.
