Yo!

Delapidated, poorly kept, dangerous

Years at this apartment: 2000 - 2004

This property went up about ten years ago, and it looks as though they haven't repainted, recarpeted, or replaced any of the furniture since then.

I've been in several different furnished units, and all of them were absolutely trashed. College kids don't take care of them, and the apartment management does absolutely no maintenance between residential contracts. The living room furniture is always stained, with flattened and distorted cushions and badly pilled upholstery. The bathrooms are poorly kept, major mildew problems and ruined linoleum tile. Kitchens have scuffed linoleum and stained cabinets. Years worth of grease and rust are never cleaned from the stove. Carpet is so matted down and blackened from traffic, it's unrecognizable. Walls and ceiling are paper thin. I can clearly hear my neighbors having sex in the shower. Same problem with common bedroom walls with roommates.

The two bedroom units have small bedrooms, but they're livable. The four bedroom units are closet-like. Every other apartment complex on campus has bedrooms TWICE THE SIZE of these. The matresses are pilled up, stained up, and full of odors. Possible health hazard. Four bedroom units are barly large enough to accomodate the bed, desk, and two night stands offered. Most residents put one night stand in the closet. Yes, two tiny night stands are all the drawer space you have. The closet is barely four feet wide. Desk has insufficient drawer space, and is too small to accomodate anymore than a laptop computer and a lamp.

The grounds are well kept and pretty, possibly the only part of the entire complex that is well groomed. There are two pools and hot tubs, but the only ones that are ever safe or open are the ones by the office. The others will be left to rot and cover with green algae. That said, the only clean hot tub is rarely working. Wash rooms are fairly well kept, but only visit them durning daylight hours. It's dangerous for a woman to go out on the grounds alone at night.

Gated community, but the gate is a joke. It affords no safety at all. It's a college complex. College kids have friends over all the time. Cars will line up 3, 4, 5 deep at the gate, waiting for somoene to open it with a gate card. Major problem with car break-ins, rampant bike theft. If you have a nice stereo or mountain bike, kiss it goodbye. Major parties with open drug use and underage drinking are busted by the police on a regular basis. Several rapes on and around campus in the last four years. Women, purchase pepper spray and keep it with you at all times. Major noise at all hours. Parties, drunk college kids yelling, loud stereos in units and cars, and 8am grounds crew on fridays.

There are good things about living here. Each resident is individually billed, and only responsible for his portion of rent. In other words, if one person moves out of a four bedroom apartment, the other three don't have to pay his rent. Every bedroom has its own independent phone line, and each resident is responsible for acquiring phone service. Apartment office is rumored to provide a roommate matching service, but I haven't heard many good things about it. Basic cable included in rent. Note: Efficiencies are the only units with a balcony.
