I cautiously recommend these apartments. Forest Ridge Apartments are a pretty good deal when you compare the square footage you get to the price you pay. When I moved in I got an awesome leasing bonus that totaled close to $2000. They always have different specials advertised. But the quality of the interiors is mediocre to bad and the fixtures are outdated. These apartments are a step above ghetto, more in the college grade apartment level.
I feel safe in the complex due to the surrounding neighborhoods being rather rich. If you drive down the street next to the complex there are multimillion dollar mansions. But every other month you'll get a notice about another break-in to an apartment or car. I think you would get this type of crime anywhere. The security gate is more of a nuisance than a deterrent. I would recommend a 2nd floor apartment to feel a little more secure. They now require you to have renter's insurance in order to rent an apartment, so you should be insured in case something does happen.
Management is helpful, though a little overworked and understaffed. The regular maintenance guys seems to be pretty timely, though I only call them for major issues. I did have problems with the company they hired to do some routine replacing of water hoses and air conditioning maintenance. Everything they touched was leaking or broken. When I called the regular maintenance, they fixed it correctly. The grounds are normally kept up and tidy.
I live on the side of the complex closest to 360, and I've never had problems with neighbors. It's not noisy, or trashed out. My apartment does smell like cigarettes when my neighbors smoke on their patio, which sucks. There are sometimes kids hanging out and playing in the parking areas and streets that get in your way. And the occasional doggy doo left in the grass. Nothing too obnoxious though.
If you are looking for something cheap, but not scary, these apartments would work for you. But if you want to love the place you live, keep looking.
