We moved to Oak Forest last year in August after moving out of our parent's houses and into our first place together. We knew we wanted to move to the Arlington area and we did intense research on the complexes in this area. We drove over an hour to tour a few complexes in one day. I found Oak Forest in the Apartment Guide book you can get for free at Grocery stores, Gas Stations, etc and called to set up an appointmet. Just from talking on the phone I knew the staff was very friendly and helpful. When we came to visit, we were very pleased with the grounds and the office. We were taken to a couple of different apartment homes to see the different layouts we could chose from. We needed a 2 bedroom. They have a 2 bed/1bath layout & a 2 bed/2bath layout. We really liked the 2 bed/2 bath, it is very spacious, has beautiful faux wood floor in the generously spacious dinning room w/bar, in the kitchen which has an over the range mircowave and pantry which I love, and in the 2 bathrooms. The living room is a nice size and has a nice fireplace. Our furniture fits nicely in the living room and we still have a lot of extra room!! The 2nd bedroom and 2nd bathroom are a nice size, the bedroom has a nice size closet even though it is not a walk-in. We were able to fit a full-size bed, nightstand, tv stand, computer desk in the room, as well as put a big dresser in the closet since this closet is spacious enough. The master bedroom is a great size, it accomodates a queen size bed, 2 night stands, and a dresser nicely and I love the big walk-in closet. The master bathroom is part of the master bedroom of course which is a nice feature and it even has a nice size linen closet. The apartment home also has a stackable washer & dryer in the unit which is in the hallway between both bedrooms which is nice and it doesn't take up any extra space! The apartment stays equally cool and warm without any problem. There is a storage closet inside the apartment by the front door as well as a storage closet on the patio, which we love. We have 2 cats and we have not had any problems accomodating our pets. The cat box is in the 2nd bathroom and does not take away from the space of the bathroom, the living room is big enough to have a cat playhouse. Anytime there is work to be done inside your apartment they always send out a notice so those with pets will be aware. You never have to worry about the safety of your animals when you are not home. The maintenance staff is very attentive to your animals. The dinning room is big enough to hold a full size dinning table with up to 6 chairs if you prefer or you can use a smaller table and have enough room for a computer desk, which is what we did, and even have room for 2 bar stools! The grounds are always kept neat and clean, every wednesday we notice the lawns being mowed. Trash is picked up every friday and we have never noticed the dumpsters smelling or running over. The pool and hot tub are always kept nice and clean and the worry of trash and loud/vulgar people at the pool area is taken away because it is right off the office, we have really enjoyed the hot tub since it has not been warm enough for us to try out the swimming pool yet! We got a 6 month lease on the 2 bedroom 2 bath and will be transferring to a 1 bedroom in a month with ease. They have made the transfer very stress-free. The office staff here at Oak Forest, especially Michelle, is extremely helpful! I have called several times asking several questions and they always answer my questions and assist me in anyway they can. We have never had a serious issue with bugs. When we first moved here we had some ants, but the complex sprayed (we didn't even ask for them to spray or mention that there were ants) and they were gone within a day! We don't have any issues with mice or rats. Parking at the front of the complex and in the middle is a little crowded, being first come first serve, but they do offer covered parking (for an additional price) but it's worth it. We plan on getting covered parking when we move to the 1 bedroom so we won't have to worry about parking. As far as noise, we live on the 2nd floor of a 3rd story building, and the people above us have no consideration what-so-ever for others in their building. They are rarely home so its not something that is to the point of calling the police but when they are home, you know about it! The general noise level of the entire complex is very low, there are never any loud people out in the parking lots, at night there is no one outside wandering around, you never hear any loud radios coming from cars, you never see the police over here handling domestic disputes. I have never seen or had any issues with car break-ins or vandalism. There could be a little more lighting at the entrances of the apartments and in the parking lots, but as I have said we have not noticed any issues with safety. I stay at home by myself on the weekends that my fiance has to work and as a female I have never felt unsafe to walk outside at night to my car or anything like that. Anytime I have passed a neighbor living here, everyone of them has waved or said hello. Never encountered a rude neighbor. There is a security car that drives through here every night to check on things. The maintenance staff is great and very helpful. The staff in general here really do care about you and want to make you as comfortable as possible. As with any apartment complex, there will always be someone in your building that you could do without, but you can't control it and you will never find a "perfect" complex. The staff can only do so much, they cant control how others live. If you don't like the possibility of noise, don't move to an apartment. Rent our buy a house. Our bank, the Post Office, Fast Food, Gas Stations, Grocery Stores, Shopping Centers, are all within 5 miles of the complex. There is even an AWESOME park with biking and hiking trails just a mile from the complex. I could go on & on about Oak Forest. Oak Forest has been a great place for us to live and has given us a very positive experience in our first place together and we plan on staying here for a while until we make the big purchase of our own home. The rent price is affordable for all of the ammenities Oak Forest has to offer! We LOVE Oak Forest!
