Not so bad

As a seasoned apartment dweller, and an apartment locator, I agree with almost all the reviews so far, good and bad.
My boyfriend and I moved in almost a year ago, and chose the property because of the good move in special, low rent, and open floor plans. The bathrooms are huge! All units provide a washer/dryer, and the open floorplan gives a neat 'loft' style appearence. The property is very quiet. When we moved in, we were so surprised at how we never saw or heard any neighbors. Parking is very adequate, and we've had no security issues. There are only eight units per building, which gives the property a nice homey feel. We are in a large one bedroom, which is great for one person, but has been a tight fit for two of us.
The problems....we had stains on our carpet when we moved in, after it had been cleaned, and the leasing agent would not replace the carpet. She asked us if we could just 'deal with it' and put it on our inventory sheet. The appliances are old and need to be updated. The stackable washer/dryer is convenient, but it takes too long to dry a full load of laundry. I think the dryer lines just need to be cleaned out.
The electricity issue is the BIGGEST problem. I made several complaints to the manager and the corporate office..which is in Minnesota, and I dont really think they understand why we need a/c in the middle of Texas summers! They did agree to pay $100 of the $230 electric bill. My a/c unit would run and run all day...but the apartment would never cool down. My second bill, they paid $75 of it...but I insisted they replace the entire A/C unit...which they finally did. My electricity bill is still over $100, but I believe that is due to the fact that the units are poorly insulated. There is one girl in the office, who is pretty clueless, although nice...but she told me that Oncor told them the average bill for the property is $175. She seems to think we all have tanning beds and generators running in our apartments. Trying to get her to see it is the apartments themselves was like running in circles.
There were staff changes after we were here a few months, and I must say that the new staff members have been very helpful. They know us by name. Any maintenance issues have been taken care of. Some took longer than others, but the staff has been sympathetic to any problems. They did go through some maintenance staff problems. Any delays have been met with apologies and quick action.
I enjoy living here, and I recommend it to clients. It's a 20 year old property, so there will be problems. The price is good, and residents are courteous. I'll take a helpful staff and safe environment over cheap electricity.
