Not worth the sleep you'll lose

My husband and I have lived here for four years. We?re looking into moving, mostly because of the noise. We never really noticed the air traffic overhead, but since the Tom Thumb was built across the street and all the construction started on FM 157, the noise has reached a level that?s hard to live with. In addition to the outside noise, the walls are so thin we can hear the neighbor?s stereo below us even when the volume is fairly low. He complains about hearing us pounding around upstairs, but we honestly tiptoe around at all times. I don?t know what year these apartments were built but they?re drafty and cost alot to keep cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Something is wrong with the wiring too because lightbulbs pop and burn out at an astonishing rate. Every summer when it gets warm and we flush the toilet, a foul sewer smell emanates from the airconditioning. Management offered to fix it after we complained a couple of times but then outlined such a long and arduous work schedule that we told them not to worry about it. The flooring is broken in a couple of places but that was just carpeted and and "linoleum-ed" over. The one redeeming factor that has kept us is the "woodsy" view from our balcony. We have enjoyed that so much that it?s been hard to think of moving somewhere with a parking lot view. Lately though, we?ve been thinking we?re overdue for a quieter place.
