1206 Castle Hill

I spent two happy years at Castle Hill & have pleasant memories of the place. If you want a spiffy apartment with pool and gym and all the modern amenities (like washer/dryer hookups), Castle Hill isn't for you. But if you're attracted to an older brick building with wooden floors on a quiet tree-lined street just a stroll from one of the most happenin' intersections in Austin -- 6th & Lamar -- then this is the place for you.
Though I lived consecutively in the two largest units (3-bedroom & 2-bedroom) and liked their roominess, I felt even the one bedroom units seemed roomy, with windows on three sides overlooking lots of greenery. The street is almost all single-family homes ranging from very nice to jaw-drop gorgeous, & Pease Park is half-a-block north. I loved being able to stroll to the restaurants & stores 2 blocks downhill on Lamar, or a few blocks east to the Capitol itself. The entire area along Lamar from 6th to 12th Street has grown more enticing since I lived there, & it was a pleasure being so close to downtown.
Because I home office'd, I spent lots of time in my apartment, which was conducive to work because it was quiet & the leafy views provided pleasant visual breaks. The other tenants were a nice bunch. As a woman living alone, I felt secure at Castle Hill because I felt the neighborhood was safe. I valued the off-street parking in covered spaces (protection from hailstorms). The reason I left was because I met my future husband & we wanted to get "our" place. Every now & then I drive by Castle Hill & it summons up happy memories of my first "home" when I moved to Austin from out of state. It may not be for everybody, but Castle Hill suited me just fine.
