If you don't mind some noise

For the Clarksville neighborhood off Enfield and West Lynn, the rent is is pretty reasonable.
An efficiency went for 550 at about 400 square feet and the two bedroom was somewhere around 900 or 1000.
My efficiency was nice.
A full but little kitchen.
I bought a microwave.
I had tile and faux wood floors.
I was able to fit a queen bed, couch, large desk, book shelf, chair, and two tables and still have plenty of comfortable space in the center.
The only thing that bothered me about living in an efficiency was smelling my cooking all over everthing for a day or two.
I had two windwos because I lived on a corner but not all do.
There are two closets, including a walk-in, so there's plenty of storage space, and the bathroom is small but efficient (which is, as it appears, the idea).
Overall, this place has been very comfortable.
The neighborhood is great.
There's a Fresh Plus, Medici Coffee House, Nau's Drug Store, Cipolina, Galaxy Cafe, Jeffrey's if you're feeling rich.
There are parks and quick access to both MoPac and 35.
It's on the UT Shuttle and close to the 9 and the 21.
You can walk to everywhere and bike.
The management has been wonderful too.
I have heard horrible things about Rainier around the campus area, but the Rainier out in central Austin on Enfield is far more professional and amenable, and they take care of problems quickly.
Here are the problems: Noise.
That's all.
I assume it's due to all the young people.
The walls between apartments are nice and thick.
I can't hear my neighbor, his music, his television, his anything.
The walls facing the outside, however, are much thinner.
When your neighbors are kind and respectful, this is not a problem, and hell, everyone should be allowed to have a good time every so often.
Smoke a cigarette or have a drink in the little courtyard, but there was about a six month period where it had simply gotten out of hand.
This particular tenant vacated before he was evicted, but it was ridiculous.
After one complaint, the management put up notices outlining rules of the community.
After ensuing complaints, they cracked down.
In fact, they were wonderful about it.
Things quieted down, and since, it's been just fine.
You just never know who's going to move in.
I'm moving because I'm poor.
But if this is what you're looking for and in your price range, I'd say do it.
It's nice.
