good location, but you can find better deals around campus

I lived at 900 West for two years. Overall it wasn't awful, but not amazing either. Craig Coffee is a terrible manager and will try to squeeze you for every dollar. If there is any damage, in or outside of your apartment, expect to pay for it, even if it isn't your fault. Even though the location is great, this place is a total rip off. You can find much better deals in West campus at complexes that are newer and actually have amenities like pools, sun roofs, tanning, workout rooms, etc. When i renewed my lease, the management office lost the fax of the guarantor form i sent them. I had no idea until 3 months later I had threatening messages from Vicki saying they were going to take me to court and evict me if i didn't get it to them the next day. She said she left me multiple voicemails telling me of the problem- they didn't.
We lived in the smaller section of apartments that looked on to 24th and surprisingly didn't have much of a noise problem, except with summer pool parties at towers. I generally felt pretty safe, there are almost always people walking around on 24th and it is pretty well lit, although there were a few car break ins in the parking garage and my car was keyed. I like that the spots are assigned close to your unit, but there are no visitor spots. There is lots of street parking but depending on the time, it is almost always full. The elevator is almost always disgusting and there are usually beer cans everywhere. The unit itself wasn't bad. we had a 2/2. The living room is long and a little difficult to get furniture arranged in. The kitchen is probably the best part of the apartment, big and open with lots of storage space. The bedrooms are average but one of the bedrooms is bigger and has a window while the other has a window to the hall and useless door you can't unlock from the outside that i am still clueless to the purpose of. Big closets, average bathrooms. The management office never picks up the phone so you have to leave messages and hope they et back to you. We had problems with our AC that it took maintenance forever to fix. In addition, they left our apartment a mess and tracked mud all over the carpet. If you ever get locked out of your apartment on a weekend, don't expect to get back in quickly. The "emergency" weekend guy doesn't live in austin and has to drive in to town, taking hours.
If you plan on subleasing or moving out early, make sure to read your contract bc they expect you to jump through hoops. Also, make sure to check over move out procedure before you sign, as Austin Investments is very specific and wants you to use "their providers" for cleaning and upon move out we ended up paying a lot more than we expected to because of it.
