Prepare to be scammed when you move out

I had mixed experiences during the short time I lived here. At first the staff was very professional and quick in responding to my problems. However, they got progressively slower and required constant prodding by me to get things done. I had numerous maintenance hassles in the short 3 month period that I lived here. When I first moved in, the washer didn't work, neither did the disposal and there were lots of little scratches and such on the walls. The maintainence people were farily quick in getting those problems fixed but the biggest and most annoying maintainence problem I had was with my smoke alarms.
I got to experience the joy of a louder than normal alarm clock thanks to my smoke alarms going off at 4:30 in the morning. Turns out that when the batteries in those things are starting to die, rather than making a chirp sound like most alarms to let you know about it, the alarm goes off and, since all the alarms are linked, the other ones go off too. I had to take the stupid things completely out so they'd stop going off. I left a not so friendly message on the management's voicemail and maintainence people came out later that day. The guys told me that the replaced the batteries in all of the alarms just to make sure it wouldn't happen again. However, 2 nights later, it DID happen again because they didn't change out all the batteries even though they said they had.
The smoke alarms were the biggest annoyances I had but the b.s. they tried to pull when I moved out really pushed me over the edge. Even though my apartment was FILTHY when I moved in and I documented it on the pre-move-in sheet, they tried to charge me for every little thing they could as "cleaning fees." My roommate and I spent hours cleaning that apartment to make sure it was clean as possible. The management still tried to charge me outrageous amounts for tiny little things like $15 for cleaning the underside of the toilet seat that I had personally cleaned and knew was sparkling clean. The changes they tried to put on me and my roommate totalled almost $1200. I guess they figured that since we were young, we were dumb and wouldn't put up a fight. They threatened to use a collection agency and ding my credit until I told them that I had prove that our apartment was dirty when we moved in and clean when we moved out and wasn't afraid of getting an attorney involved. Suddenly the charges dropped from $1200 to $35 for "bent shades" in the living room.
Moral of the story, the place is nicer than others but still overpriced and if you decide to move in here, make sure you fill out as much as possible on that pre-move-in sheet and take pictures of EVERYTHING when you move in and when you move out.
