I lived in the Austin City Lights (at first the Alexan City Lights) for 2.5 years.
First off, the bad. The community is rather new and for the most part the appearance of the place reflects that, but some of the materials inside the apartments (the kitchen & bathroom cabinetry for instance) do not neccesariy reflect that. Though the cabinets are astetecally pleasing, they are not of high quality and are subject to deteriorate at any moment. Additionally, I either had especially noisy neighbors or the walls of the Austin City Lights are exceptionally thin and/or poorly insulated. Finally, the parking can be a challenge. There are numerous small car spots (a.k.a door ding spots) that you can try your luck on, but if you want a real spot later into the evening (after 8 on weekdays, after midnight on weekends) you may have to walk a good distance.
The good stuff: In my experience the office staff and the manager (Stacy) are pretty responsive. They did not treat me like a nuisance on the way of their next lease. The grounds are nice. The fitness area is as good as I have seen for the price range in Austin. The pool speaks for itself. The location of the complex, while lacking a nice supermarket in the area (Fiesta: Yuck), does have easy access to several casual dining chains, a CVS, a liquor store, a couple of banks, two movie theaters, Congress Ave, and I-35.
