Not that bad, but not that good either

I just wanted to share my expiriences with this complex. A lot of people have taken to comment "this place sux, don't move here", which might be true in their case, but honestly, things in my case have not been THAT bad.
Most of the problems I've had have been from other residents, and not the management. No matter where you are, there are always people who suck, so I choose not to blame the complex for sucky people. I had a neighboor once that chose to leave trash on their porch, and after complaining a couple days later their porch was clean (they moved out a couple of months later). There is also another person across the way from me that leave their puppy out on the porch ALL NIGHT LONG. Needless to say, the puppy spends all night wailing and crying. How would you feel if you got confined to a small porch with a bunch of junk on it all night' I've since complained, management said they'll be right on it, but we'll see (they've been pretty quick in the past).
As far as my own apartment construction goes, it's not bad, but it's not great either. I chose the apartments in the first place because of the rent price, and because they would allow pets, so I wasn't too picky about appearances. The carpet and tile were new when I moved in, but it was cheaper stuff. The washer/dryer and A/C unit outside were updated, but my stove, water heater, microwave and dishwasher were... original' My only complaints about the appliances are that the dishwasher was an energy hog, and when I stopped using it my electric bill dropped by $40. When I bake things in my oven, only the bottom burner turns on and results in uneven heating. I've asked about new appliances before, but I was told that they would be replaced eventually anyway. So why not replace them now'
I had a problem with ants when I first moved in. I complaned about it and they got someone to spray poison outside my apartment, but I think the ants were well established in the wall. I was adament about not leaving food out and laying ant bait, and they eventually lost interest in my apartment.
Management is slowly improving the complex. Those nasty car-ports will be coming down in the future, and I've noticed that they've been slowly re-doing the flower beds and pruning the trees all around the complex. They've started to build new dumpster enclosures as well as tear down the old porch enclosures and replace them with metal ones.
In all, this complex has much room for improvement, and the improvements are slowly coming. Management has been honest with me when it comes to workorders, as in when they are backed up, they tell me they are backed up and don't lie. I plan on staying here if the rent doesn't spike too much with the rennovations.

I think that the rennvations are ok but the fact that they are taking away most of the cabinets in the kitchen is so wrong. Where are you going to put your dishes? The rent will be too high for what you're getting. Remember the place is over 20 years old.

This post sounds like how I felt in the first few months of my lease. Every lease since they've raised the rent considerably, and they'll continue until you can't afford it anymore. Your tone will probably change when they throw some rocks through your car windows and you have to pay the bill. I'm surprised no one has really mentioned the horrible plumbing problems yet. Anyway, this hasn't been a pleasant experience, just don't get too comfortable.
