We moved out of Antilles Apartments recently with mixed feelings about leaving. Overall, the units were very cozy and charming in a great location at a decent price. However, at times it seems that the management is determined to scare people away and run what would otherwise be great place into the ground.
The Good:
-Smaller complex in a wonderful area. (I will miss Tarrytown's safety and convenience greatly) I really liked the smaller complex's more homey feel.
-The grounds/courtyard are generally very pretty. They lucked out with some large old trees and natural shade.
-They let you have pets. We were able to keep our larger dog there which is rare for apartments in Tarrytown.
-Older but charming apartments with conveniences like a ceiling fan with lighting in every room, and tile with hardwood or pergo flooring. I actually really enjoyed coming home to my apartment. It was cozy and unique from my friends' newer more main-stream apartments.
-Recently they got a new manager who seems very nice and experienced, so the future of the place looks good.
-Units do have a dishwasher which is rare for a lot of older places.
The Bad:
-Exterior of the apartments is ok but something is always lacking. For instance, they finally replaced the rotting railing but then neglected to paint the wood. So basically you're looking at unfinished wood railing mixed with older painted railing. It looks a bit trashy but I doubt they're planning to paint them since its already been like this for at least 6 months.
-When we moved in we were allured by the promise of a pool on site as one of the amenities. Within 2 months of living there, the pool had been filled in with dirt. (Classy huh') Plus, we had to continue to pay full price for an amenity we no longer had.
- A lot of pet waste recently.
-Big time pest problems! Roach problem in our unit since the day we moved in. We actually had to do A LOT of caulking and sealing in the apartment ourselves (pest guy would just come and spray everywhere) to get a handle on the roach issue. Our hard work helped some but in the summer months you're still gauranteed to see (and slay) about 1 cockroach a day. Oh, and this January rats invaded our AC closet. We got NO help from management with this except for the pest guy to come and put down glue traps which caught nothing. We had to set spring traps ourselves to take care of the problem.
-Kitchen is VERY small. Our bathroom was bigger than our kitchen and the bathroom wasn't very big either. Our 1 little cabinet served as our pantry, silverware drawer, and cubboard.
-Hit or Miss with maintenance. Current maintenance guy seems pretty good. But 2 summers ago we were without AC for a week and a half while the previous maintenance guy tried (3x) to fix it. Nothing deducted from the rent for our trouble and agony.
Overall:
It really is a cute place in an awesome location at a reasonable price. I'm sure that not every unit was a trouble-ridden as ours but due to my experiences it is a relief to have moved.
