In retrospect, leasing at the Argosy at Crestview is hard to describe, but suffice it to say awkward situations at the front desk are an Argosy specialty. There is no doubt that you will be enticed into living here as its exterior is picturesque and NEW living units are furnished with brand new appliances. Be warned however, after the ink is dry on your contract the leasing office temperament can fall into condescension quite quickly. Temperament aside, they are dependable when it comes to their jobs.

The Argosy has also undergone a face lift since I first rented here in February 2006. My first impression of the place was an older, woodsy apartment home community, however, the exterior was quickly redone and the wooden balconies, which offered a bit of outdoor privacy, were replaced with thin iron bars. Its characteristic foliage, which attracted me to Argosy in the first place, was trimmed for a more visible view of the units, so be prepared to adjust to a beautiful lack of privacy. In addition, maintenance and the leasing office people will enter your apartment when your deadbolt is not locked for whatever reasons, which I believe is common in many apartment complexes, however, initially this was very frequent (from what I could gather at least once or twice a week). On top of that, I strongly recommend requesting a new lock and key as they routinely do not change them out when new tenants move in which means a former tenant could also still have a working key to your new home. In all fairness, they have successfully kept the Argosy from becoming havens for drug pushers and generally forgiving of minor noise infractions.

With respect to the quality of the units they are overpriced, but its proximity to Lamar and its Campus/Downtown bus routes which are of considerable importance to undergrads, grad students, UT employees, and the more local workforce may justify it with decreased transportation costs.

Usually there are at least two maintenance workers patrolling the complex during the daytime hours and often there are many others strolling the area working on various projects. Generally, requests are resolved quickly, especially anything big (i.e. H/VAC, plumbing), so don't sweat the small stuff.

UPDATE:
It seems that the quality of service in the front office as voiced by other tenants in dropping drastically. If actions speak louder than words then the people who run the front desk are shouting "fire me" at the top of their lungs. It is mostly an issue of common courtesy. Even perfect strangers deserve some level of dignity and respect especially lease-holders! They have proven themselves to untrustworthy.
