Lived here since 1999. It was nice back then. Standards have fallen. I had a hole in my bathroom ceiling for 10 months that was finally patched up by a paper plate (I'm not kidding), and my air-conditioner has been leaking for two years. When it's above 80 degrees (typical for 5/6th of the year) the A/C leaks up to a gallon of water a day onto the carpet. I don't care anymore, and neither does Ashbury Park.
Speaking of water...the water bill is communal, so you WILL be ripped off (I had to pay a $38 water bill once - avg is $25). The bill comes once a month without any water usage data, or any other explanation, and is due with the rent on the 1st (rent is late on the 2nd here - $25).
Don't bother with the pool or the "exercise room," as they are both disgusting, and in the case of the exercise room, nothing actually works (which makes the signs on 183 for the place very amusing).
On the plus side, the rent has gone from $690 a month in 1999 to $475 this year, but this has attracted the problems that have led Ashbury Park into the government housing Promised Land.
If you like wasting time, you'll love punching in a code to get OUT of the parking lot.
