When we first moved into Ashbury in the summer of 2004 (if I'm not mistaken) it was a decent property. It was gated and the landscape was okay. The pool was pretty nice and we thought the jaccuzi was a nice extra.
The only reason we really moved in was because my husband knew one of the office ladies and she gave us a good deal. Also, they gave us an apt that they'd been using for a model, so it seemed pretty nice during the first walkthrough. When we moved in and I was looking around, I opened the pantry door and saw 2 cockroaches, one of which practically jumped at me!
For the first couple of months, we saw no more roaches. I was glad. Then we got new next door neighbors, and the roaches started coming in by droves. We notified managemant many times, and they kept saying it wasn't their problem, and that we should "be cleaner." They refused to send pest control.
We moved out because of the roaches. I couldn't even go into my kitchen anymore, I was so terrified.
Also, over the months, the noises in the parking lot grew louder. People, car alarms, screaming, possible gun shots...I felt like I was living in Albuquerque again. There were Mexican parties (people getting drunk in the parking lot) all the time, and I had to listen to them puking outside my window at all hours of the night.
When it came time to renew our lease, we didn't. We kept on at a month-to-month rate until we found something better. So imagine our surprise when we recieved a letter saying we owed them like, $1300 for "breaking the lease." We wrote them back saying that we never signed another lease, and never got a response, but they sent our case to the collectors, and our credit is screwed for the time being...
We also had a couple of packages stolen from the office. They do not require anyone to sign for the packages when picked up, and they keep them all in a room, not in any kind of order. Then claim they're not liable when a package goes missing...a.s.s.holes!

The "gated-community" thing is a JOKE! Gates are ALWAYS broken.
Unless you're completely desperate for a place to live, or you're a drug-dealer or drunk Mexican or crack-selling black person, DO NOT EVEN CONSIDER THIS PLACE!!!!!!
