I just read all of the other reviews and, for the most part, they couldn't be more wrong.
A lot of people on here complained about the office staff and the fact that they don't return calls. I've had no problems with them--in fact, they generally go out of their way to help out with problems. They may not answer calls often, but it's because they're showing people the apartments for rent, and they always call back by the next day.
As for delayed maintenance repairs, there are about 100 apartments--everyone has something wrong, but as Superman is currently unavailable for hire, mere mortals must suffice to take care of everyones problems. When you call a company to fix a leaky faucet, they generally don't say, "I'll be there right away," Typically, it's "We'll be there in about a week. How does Wednesday from between 10am-5pm sound'". The man has a right to sleep and eat like any human being.
Several people mentioned gangs, shootings, men beating their wives, and violent dogs. I'm wondering where on earth they thought that up. There aren't any gangs, no one's been shot that I know of, all of the dogs here are sweet tempered, cute little things, and as for domestic abuse, there hasn't been a single incident that I've hear about.
Parking seems to be another issue people have complained about a lot. I've never had a problem getting a spot close to my apartment. Unless you're looking for a spot at 2 o'clock in the morning, there's always a spot close enough that doesn't make for an inconveniently long walk to get home.
Noisiness and trash seem to be another hot topic. When someone gets too loud, one of the resident officers comes and requests that they turn down the music. They do. Other than the people behind me, I've had no problem with anyone in that respect--and even the people behind me turn the volume down after 9 pm.
People are out picking up the trash residents are to lazy to throw away in their own apartments at LEAST every other day, if not more. They also pick up the 'presents' left behind by dogs owned by residents too rude to throw it away themselves.
Some of the reviews brought up the pool and hut tub being dirty and/or non-functioning. While having them up and running would be nice, it shouldn't really be a big issue--the Anderson Mill Pool is less than a quarter mile away, and the El Salido Pool is less than a mile away from the AM pool.
Now for the few single complaints that caught my attention.
1) The electric bill being upwards of $300 the first month. There is a one-time 200 dollar fee to turn the electricity on and put it in your name. As for the other hundred, this is Texas. It's HOT. Maybe if you didn't run your AC at 65 degrees and leave it on when you aren't home, it wouldn't be that high.
2) The High School Lock Down. I attended WHS when that occurred. They didn't keep us there because he lived in Audubon Square, or even because he was hiding there. He wasn't. He ran across Lakecreek to the complex past the ditch--It's called The Meadows. THAT is where he was hiding.
3) The guy who flashed the girl while she was sitting in her car after going to lunch. I believe the quote was, "This isn't the eastside," Ok, honey, there are perverts EVERYWHERE. You can't avoid them.
There's a major upside to living in this area--It's in Williamson County. If you've lived in central Texas for any length of time, you understand what that means. Williamson county cops are total hardasses. They may issue you a ticket for going two miles over the speed limit, but they'll be there in a heartbeat if you're in trouble.
I will admit, however, that there is a downside to living in Audubon Square. The traffic from the highschool starts just after 4, and it'll take you 15 minutes or more just to get to the first stop sign if you turn left. My strategy is, leave before 4 or after 4 45 and you're golden.
In any case, I'll finish this with a little recap: The office staff is great, the maintenance work gets done in an acceptable amount of time, there isn't any reason to fear walking to your car at night, parking is okay, the noise level is reasonable, the place is kept neat and tidy, and there's a pool, and HEB, movie rental places, a gym, a Starbucks, and much more all within a quarter mile--meaning easy walking distance. Audubon has never screwed me over, and I think it's a great place to live.
****** EDIT ******
Everything I stated above is true. It's great while you're living there. Then they allow your roommate to cancel the lease without your permission and tack on 600 dollars in supposed 'unpaid bills' AFTER you pay the early lease termination fee--which is 85% of a months rent. For me, it was 585.
Note to any future residents--Suck up to Katrina. It's the only way you won't get ----ed over when you leave.

Someone in the office wrote this! Electric bills ARE high, because the office won't approve new air conditioners for the residents. Some of the units are 20 years old, some older. There wasn't energy efficient a/c's then. They advertise the pool AND spa, that can't be used. They advertise a gated community, that isn't working. The maintanence MAN is great, the woman is horrid. Ask some of the new residents who had to have things repaired AFTER they moved in because it wasn't done right the first time. As for Wilco, they won't touch the Mellow Meadow Apts with a ten foot pole. They drive by and just keep going when something is wrong here. The little boy they hired as a "coutesy" officer sucks! He is NEVER able to handle things because he is on duty at night. Don't believe this review, it is altered for the staff to look good.

Mmk, I'm not from the office, and this isn't "altered to make them look good". I lived at audubon for a year and 5 months. Apt f 206 for my first lease and f 107 for my second. You make have seen me around--6 ft tall women are hard to miss.
Oh, and the electric is NOT unreasonable, they've fixed the pool AND hot tub, the maintenance lady was never anything other than nice to me, and the complex cop has NO problem getting stuff solved in the middle of the night. The only people I have issues with are Katrina and the chick in f 207, who lets her kids flip over couches and stomp around at all hours or the day and night.
