Not bad for the price

Years at this apartment: 1997 - 2002
When I first moved in, Austin Gardens was by far the most economical, clean, and (relatively) secure place available in the metro area. Since 1997, however, the rental rates aren?t that much more inexpensive than it?s competitors. (Overall, though, I would have to say that it is still deceptively cost-effective with low electric costs and paid cable.)
My only complaint (other than the size of the units, which is a bit small and not too conveniently laid out) is that the main management company isn't very accomodating, even for long-time residents. The representative office staff are very professional and helpful within their parameters, but THEIR bosses don't know the residents from Adam.
They do regular pest control, and repairs were always done in a timely fashion. The office staff in past years wasn't always around or they weren't very friendly when they were in the office, but the current staff is great, very friendly and responsive. The strict management was good for keeping the complex very clean and protected in one of the less scenic areas of Austin.
The on-site management are some very nice people, and all in all, it's a good place if you're just starting out or if you're very strapped for cash, but don't expect ANY favors or allowances from the main management company.
