Overall a good place to live in Austin.

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2006
I lived in a one bedroom apartment for a year while going to culinary school. I had night classes and by the time I would get home (11:00 pm to midnight) there wouldn't be a space to park near my apartment. I would have quite a walk to my apartment and even though I felt pretty safe walking, it was a big inconvenience. I often had to tote my school stuff (which was a lot and pretty heavy) a pretty far way. It wasn't a total nightmare, but it wasn't fun most nights getting home late. If you expect to get home earlier in the day you probably won't have a problem.
The apartment was clean when I moved in except from some grout stains in the bathtub. The kitchen was tiny and had a slow leak under the kitchen sink. I discovered that when I was moving out and reported it. I am sure they took care of it. They were very on top of things as far as maintenance. They usually responded to service requests within 24 hours. I had only minor issues, like my garbage disposal acting up and my dryer wasn't drying my clothes sufficiently. These problems were fixed quickly. The staff in the office were very nice, friendly and helpful. Most of them remembered my name (even without seeing my rent check) and greeted me as I walked in the door.
I had a downstairs apartment. I only heard my upstairs neighbors when they walked. Sometimes it sounded like a herd of elephants when they would go down their staircase. For the most part though it was very quiet. I never heard talking or televisions going. Only once did I hear excessively loud music in some one's apartment but it was taken care of quickly.
The grounds are very well kept up and are beautiful. Seems like they watered and mowed the lawn a lot - which was a bit noisy, but no doubt it was a pretty place to live, especially considering its close proximity to a major road (Research Blvd). The apartments are older but they are well maintained and very reasonably priced. And you can't beat having a dishwasher and washer/dryer included in that price! No laundromats to visit.
By the way, I am a young single girl and felt very safe in my apartment and walking the grounds (even at night) at Balcones Club Apartments. For the price and all that's included, its was pretty hard to beat. I would recommend this apartment complex to my friends and family. I honestly wish I could have brought my Balcones Club apartment with me when I moved out of state!! I am paying much more now for a lot less.
