I've lived here for a year now and recently had to move to a newly remodeled apartment once my lease ended. I can't complain about the updates, except the carpeting they gave me is very cheap, "shag"-looking, and you can see straight through the carpeting to the plastic padding underneath. My old, "vintage" apt had much nicer, plush carpeting. The cabinets and stainless-steel appliances are beautiful, though. I love the washer/dryer connections--after college, I vowed to never again live at a place that required me to use a laundry room. Too much work! The only complaints I have are that I've had more than a few nasty creatures in my old apartment: I had either a squirrel or a rat living in my water heater closet that the pest control company could NEVER get rid of...finally once it started getting warmer out, the thing disappeared. Gross! It would wake me up in the middle of the night, almost every night, because it would chew on the wood...and I could never get back to sleep and I was a crabby zombie for a month or so during the winter. I also had a few roaches and a bit of a millipede problem. Don't we pay $3 a month for pest control' Maybe they should hire a new company. As for the person complaining about the price, yes, $729 does kind of seem like a lot for a one bedroom, but it is relatively low for this area, and especially considering all the updates they're doing. Plus, it all depends on the time of year/economy. Three years ago, I was paying $200 less per month for a one-bedroom, but that is virtually unheard of now unless you're living in a studio or in the ghetto. My rent only going up $100 is not bad at all. My friend lives in another complex, and all they did was slap on some laminate countertops and a new light fixture and which hardly justified the extra $250 that was tacked onto her rent each month.

Aside from having my place broken into, the wiring and fusebox burn up, water coming down from the apartment above mine, being able to hear the upstairs neighbor open and close their sliding door dozens of times per day and night (what the hell were they doing up there?), having police repeatedly coming over to deal with other neighbors (they called the cops on their own roommates), and now the rent going up over $200 month to pay for very minor upgrades, it's been a slight upgrade over my old place off East Riverside south of the river. For what I'll be paying after the upgrade, I could go to Riata and have a much nicer place. Oh, I forgot. The maintenance guys are really good, which is nice because you will have to have work done...
