I moved in 3 months ago, and I knew this wasn't a luxury complex when I signed my lease - I actually moved here from a luxury complex to save money. Some folks recently have complained about roaches. I've seen a few insects (mostly silverfish, which are pretty common in apartments), but I've actually seen fewer insects here than at the luxury complex. Maybe the ones here are better at hiding.

This is not a bad place to live. It is relatively inexpensive for the area and the apartment size, but it's not a fancy complex and doesn't pretend to be. Someone complained about the noise with the painting ... as far as I'm concerned, getting the buildings "prettied up" is worth the noise and inconvenience and at least one of neighbors de-junked their balcony because of it - woohoo!).

I've had a few complaints since moving in. My apartment wasn't particularly clean when I moved in (some of former residents things were still in cabinets and drawers), and although new flooring was installed, it was obviously not done by a professional installer. My neighbors sometimes make a lot of noise around 2 a.m. When it rains, the sidewalks get swampy. Repair requests don't get done nearly as quickly as I'd like. At least one of the young women in the leasing office is easily puzzled by questions. But the thing is, you're probably going to find most of these issues at most of the complexes in Austin.

Texas has horrible tenant's laws, and mostly sides with the landlord. That's just the way it is. If you signed a standard lease, you should be submitting your maintenance requests in writing (certified, return receipt requested is best if it's a serious problem). If there's a health hazard, they have to fix it within a reasonable amount of time. No, I'm not a lawyer. But I DID read my lease.

Thank you for this. I just moved to Texas - to Barrington, and I am fighting to get them to fix many health code violations. I will start submitting all of my requests in writing!
