I chose this location as it was within walking distance to the nearby culinary college. It was great for about 2 months...then things started falling apart. During my ONE YEAR lease, my water heater broke down 3 times before they actually LOOKED at the thing to realize there was a 25 pound block of calcium in it, and that it was draining 110 gallons of water a day out the side of the building. (How do you not notice that') During the replacement, the old water heater exploded, and the maintenance men hadn't even bothered to tell me to move my things, or move them themselves...so everything I had in my storage unit was soaked, and destroyed.

I lost a 300 dollar package somewhere in their office. I still (STILL) have the package slip to this day, saying it's in their office. When I went to retrieve it the 'couldn't find it' and when asked about compensation for THEIR foul up, I was greeted with a 'too bad so sad' attitude.

My Air conditioner broke a total of 7 times. Every time they blamed the filter for the fact that my apartment would reach 90 degree temperatures AT NIGHT! They'd use every excuse not to actually replace it. Oh it's the insulation, oh it's not calibrated properly, oh it's the filters, oh it's because your apartment is situated under the sun. Hello. EVERY apartment is under the sun. I'd normally credit this, but we had an apartment under several trees and surrounded by other buildings, and not perched out by the road, so we were NOT 'under the sun' very much. By the way, for a ONE bedroom apartment in this joint, thanks to their water heater and Air conditioner noncompliance my electric bills were a whopping 325.42 EVERY MONTH! That's more than my friend pays at her HOUSE. That's a little more than double what I pay NOW in my new TWO bedroom apartment (Which I do recommend. The park at Walnut Creek.) Here my electric bill is a modest 153.32 a month.

Someone else had a working key to my apartment when I first moved in as well. Thank god at night I locked my deadbolt! Several nights someone would come up to my door around 5 am and unlock it and try to get in, only to find the deadbolt locked. That is the most terrifying moment of my life! Some STRANGE person has a key to MY house! When I brought this to the office's attention, rather than change my locks for free, I was forced to PAY to feel safer. Not that I was much safer, as there's a huge glass panel right next to the door. If someone was REALLY determined to break in it would be REALLY easy.

Every morning Captain Drummer would go out on his balcony at 7 am and play his drums. I was never that bothered by it, however be aware that noise complaints aren't taken very seriously, otherwise he'd have been kicked out by a friend who complained EVERY time our friend 'captain drummer' decided he wanted to reenact his recent 'rock band' game.

The roaches. Disgusting. Everything from little 2 inch roaches to big hulking, frightening 4.5 inch ones that could probably eat your dog. No matter how clean I kept the place the roaches were just everywhere. I'm phobic of bugs, so you can only imagine the hell that was for me.

Finally after a year of that I decided my money was worth a bit more compliance and care from the maintenance and office. I've yet to have ANY major issues in this new complex, and when my car battery died, the maintenance men actually came out and gave me a jump...TWICE. Every small issue I've had, has been dealt with within a matter of days (since they're so minor, I hardly mind.)

And, finally...the last quirks. THESE gates actually close, THIS pool is actually clean (and not filled with people who don't even LIVE in the apartment complex. remember those never-closing gates' yeah. That's why.)

They told me the same thing about my a/c. "It's just the filter." Finally they sent their least incompetent maintenance guy out and he figured out that there was in fact a problem, like I had been telling them. Too bad my electric bill was through the roof and my a/c was broken all summer before they figured it out.
