I don't think I'm even technically a "nonresident" yet. But, anyways, I chose it after doing my research online & reading the good reviews here. Any perk I can think about for this complex can be found at plenty of the others in the general area. While living at Bent Oaks my car was broken into twice. The only reason it probably didn't happen a 3rd time was I didn't replace my radio again until after moving out. After the 1st break in I was told I should park my car on the other side of the parking lot to help prevent it from happening again (so although there is "ample parking", you have to be selective about your spots). Well, I was definitely parked in the "recommended area" when it happened the 2nd time (& I had taken off my face place & had it stored in a console). Granted its Austin & breakins are pretty common. But, you should be fore-warned its obviously not a gated complex & has no "courtesy security guards" that cycle the lot every now & then to help try to prevent this from happening. You also have to be careful in the parking lot because people tend to zip through it & you can very easily be hit or hit someone else (I had no clue about this when 1st moving in & backed into someone flying by that I didn't see until way too late). As far as inside the apartment goes....the tiling around the handle bar/soap rack in my bathtub/shower broke off. It was pretty obvious this wasn't the first time this has happened because all these broken tiles practically came pouring out of the wall after those others came off. Anyways, I called maintenance out & they were defintely extremely nice, quick, & responsive. However, they couldn't do anything about it & said they were going to get a contractor to fix it. Well, that never happened & after returning today to hand over my keys (I'll get to explaining that a bit later) my hole in the shower/bathtub was still there covered by a trash bag & duct tape. I renewed my lease there in the summer of '04 for convenience reasons (wasn't worth moving out since I was getting ready to graduate in the fall anyways). I thought we built in my move-out date into the contract. However, we evidentally didn't & I found out after moving out completely & going to hand in my keys that I didn't give my "60 day notice" so I had to pay rent for the next 60 days. Well, they also conveniently failed to mention then (not that I could have done anything about this), that I would be slapped with an additional $200 fee each of these two months because its treated as month to month renting. I also saw someone mention the lawn people in their review. I totally agree with that! They came by early in the morning (I believe it was Mondays) & made a ton of noise that woke me up every time. I was almost tempted to switch to 8am classes for those days so I would already be up before they came. Anyways, with everything that went wrong for me while living there, I would definitely not recommend for anyone to move here. If you like the area, there are plenty of other similarly priced complexes in the area (that have access to the same UT shuttle). Don't waste your money here, use on a better quality place elsewhere!

The 60 day notice and fees, etc, are mentioned in the lease, so it's not really like they forgot to mention it. I know people don't like to sit there and actually read the lease, but this person would have had trouble with that at any complex. (I'll admit the only reason I know that it's in the lease is because I live with my boyfriend, so when we sat there to sign the lease he painstakingly read every single page... @_@)
