Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I started out at Bent Oaks with a nine month lease and was content enough with the place to renew my lease for a year. Unfortunately I am going to have to move out when my lease expires in June.
I echo the remarks made by the woman who had to move out due to a peeping tom - I live in the same building she did, and I remember when it happened. Our neighbor is an elderly man with Alzheimer's who is very creepy. I worry for his safety as he lives alone, and for the safety of the other tenants as well if he has any sort of accidents (fire, etc). He has tons of visitors who come to look after him, but some are just as strange, including a 50 year old crack addict named Jeannie who, after striking up a conversation with my boyfriend, started knocking on our door at all hours of the night, even going so far as to try the door handle. I'm guessing a lot of people had problems as well, because she was hauled away by police once and an ambulance another time.
Honestly though, aside from this really strange situation I found myself in, these apartments are decent. It's a great area, very convenient to an HEB, right on the UT bus line. The maintenance seem pretty quick to respond to issues, the unit is in good condition, and the parking is plentiful. My only other complaints are that laundry room units cost a lot - the washing machine was just raised by a quarter to $1.25 a load, and the dryers aren't very good. The other is that water and sanitation bills (which are incorporated into rent) go up astronomocially with each month. I started out paying a mere $10 extra a month and now see more than $40 tacked on to my rent.
Overall, the apartments are fine, and I would recommend them.
