2 Memorable Years at The Breakers

Years at this apartment: 2002 - 2004
If you work near Downtown or South Austin and you're looking for a nice affordable apartment community, look no further than The Breakers. The convenient location near IH35 is great and being near Town Lake and the hike & bike trail was a definate bonus for us.
Apparently these apartments have been around for some time. My dad told me that they used to be the "swingin' spot" back in the 60's and 70's. (yes, I quote :-)) The grounds and apartment interiors have been renovated within the last several years. The management office, pool, and gym complex appear to be of newer quality and were most likely constructed during the renovation. The effect is that you don't feel as if you're living in apartments built in the dark ages. The exterior construction of the apartments themselves are of brick and of the quality you don't encounter in your average modern apartments. ("They don't make 'em like they used to.") The sound dampening and insulation qualities are superb.
Our apartment was on the lake side in building #5 and we enjoyed the view of the water from the windows and front walkway immensely. We also had a great view of the Capitol dome and the UT Tower. Wanna know if UT won tonight or not' Just glance at the tower and see if it's ORANGE! It seriously felt like we should have been paying much more for the location. The lake view is the one thing I will miss the most of all.
As far as the management staff, they have always been friendly, helpful, and courteous with us. I can remember only two times I ever needed something to be serviced and in both instances the problem was resolved within hours. I'm a typical software developer and better at writing websites like this than I am at remembering to pay my bills, but the staff were always understanding with me. Mary and her team are very customer service oriented and they have thrown apartment sponsored poolside concerts, get-togethers, and prize drawings on many occaissions since we have lived here. I won a gift certificate to Best Buy which bought the better part of my car stereo. The pool is always clean and well maintained. The gym is likewise. They have also recently added a tanning bed to their list of amenities. It's been apparent to me that they are making great strides toward gaining/maintaining the trust and appreciation of the tenants.
The only real complaint I can come up with is that there is a fair amount of celebretory activity (live concerts) at the park grounds on the opposite shore of Town Lake which was sometimes destracting when I was trying to crunch a deadline. But, if you're a fan of Tejano music, you'll love the free concerts. :-) Truthfully, the fact is that this just adds to the unique ambiance of this location and I wouldn't have changed it for the world.
I would definately recommend this community to anyone. We're moving into a house now, but (And I never thought I'd say this about an apartment) I will definately miss living here.
Thank you Breakers for 2 great years!
