livable...but

I've been living here for two full years, and all in all I wouldn't complain about the management or rent, the location is good (close to UT and the downtown bus routes). But if you plan on moving in here, you should definitely take ito account the fact, that the buildings themselves are so-so old, decrepid even I would say. Like in our apt. for instance, the wall in the bathroom is totally rotten (the same is true about the cabinets in the kitchen). Looks really grose, and if you are allergic to mold - than you have to think of something esle. The A/C in our apt. is also anscient, leeks constantly and didn't cool the place down really well (remember it's Texas)till recently, when the new maintenance team replaced some switch on the roof which was set on "low refrigerancy", causing the reidents $120 electricity bills for god know how many years. I gotta tell you though, the management here is really great. They're very friendly, and actually if there is a problem they earnetly TRY to fix it. Like this year during the flood, we were totally swimming, they replaced the carpeting and did the cleaning all at their expense (being flooded during heavy rain is the thing you shoud consider as well, when moving to the first floor apt. Be sure to check if your apt. has an actual elevated step over the surface of the pavement, and good drainage near)Then, the next problem: water, water, water. Apparently something's screwd in the water pipepump system, because the management has been doing constant repairs (for 2 years I've been here) and turns the water off, which suxs. Then, the busy Lamar nearby: it's a pro, but a con, if you live in the building directly facing it, like me. You can hear pretty much everything, and if some big truck passes by, or someone has loud music on, it feels like you're an insect trapped in a carton box, with the walls vibrating. The windows (like doors as well) are very badly adjusted, so there are actual holes between the window/door and the window/door frame, so the windows vibrate, and doors let the water/insects in. We put a pillow against the window, so it kinda solves the vibration problem:)
Bottomline: this place is great-great great for students. It's cheap and decent, but it's a low budget apartment complex. You get exactly what you pay for. The management is also very nice, they do a great job on such an old property, I give them a five for what they do. Neighbours - nice people, never-ever had any problems here, it's pretty safe. Parking - lots of it in the complex, so it's not a problem. I would say, go for it if you need a cheap location close to UT. If I hadn't have to move to another city, I would stay for a while, kinda feels like home already.
