Balanced, Pros and Cons review
From: SWattsDate posted: 10/2/2005
Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2005
First the Pros:
- Location, obviously
- Parking is usually plentiful
- Generally nice appearance
- Haven for UT coeds who fancy themselves part of the "beautiful people" crowd and want to party while living on daddy's dime
- Mostly nice, friendly staff
- High ceilings in some units
Now the Cons:
- NOISE!!! Many buildings back the noisy garage; many bedrooms back the equally noisy walkways; thin, poorly insulated walls allow you to hear the game on TV at your neighbor's house (along with his 5-6 word college vocabulary); VERY noisy, thoughtless UT kiddies.
- Poor building construction. Though easy on the eye, 1007 was built with cheap materials and thrown together. There are actually lumps under my carpet, meaning they didn't bother to sweep before laying down the carpet.
- Little closet space in apartments.
- No external storage available.
- People leave their ripe and rancid trash in front of the trash chutes rather than putting it IN the trash chutes.
- No sense of community (unless drinking buddies are considered community). Nobody knows their neighbor; nobody cares.
- Exercise room has cheap, poorly maintained, dangerous equipment.
- Main gate is broken, so safety is a concern (though nothing like the east side).
- The parking garage doubles as a speedway for drunk, teenage drivers who may or may not notice you on their grill after they run you down.
SUMMARY: 1007 South Congress is an upscale-wanna-be complex in a good location targeted at UT kids with cars and rich parents to pay the rent. It is VERY noisy, has no sense of community, little storage and is poorly built.
