I can't help but laugh while reading these reviews. I lived at this location when it was the Riverwoods Apts., back before the yuppie and UT frat boy invasion that turned this formerly funky fringe neighborhood into "SoCo" -- a lilly-white, sanitized, overpriced amusement park facsimile of what the area used to be.

You see, they tore the Riverwoods down and forced us all -- working class Latino families, artist, musicians, and grad students, to move out so that they could build this "exclusive" and "luxury" apartment building for rich kids that everyone's complaining about.

Four digits a month for a hole in the wall' We payed $550 a month for 1100 square feet and the rent didn't increase in the four years I lived there. Sure we didn't have a gym, and there was the occasional prostitution ring, but that's part of what made the old South Congress a real urban neighborhood with all its charm.

So back to my theme. I have to laugh at all the wannabes moving into their wannabe neighborhood. Back when I lived there the neighborhood actually was what you only think it is now. I had the real thing for far less money than these people are paying for a fake.

And they threw us out to move them in. Money talks.

Good luck with your exclusive luxury apartment, folks. I'll try not to be bitter about property developers, yuppie wannabes, and drunken college kids ruining what was a little bit of paradise in Austin. Instead I'll try to keep on laughing. Reading these reviews really helps. mgFDbN4-dhkSMZ7zRmVH
