If you like the hood... live here. If you have taste, don't!

Years at this apartment: 2004 - 2006
I have no idea even where to start. I have lived at Campus Estates since August of 2004, and the first year wasn't too bad. This past year, though, the place filled up like mad! I am often out late due to work, and parking is nearly always jam-packed. The noise level in the complex is horrible... I don't know if the complex just attracts people who have no consideration, but I swear every neighbor I have had has been ridiculously classless and inconsiderate of their neighbors. Thanks to the lovely demographics of the area (it is in ZIP 78741... translation: THE HOOD!), people love to drive around at 2, 3, and 4 in the morning with their subs so loud that pictures shake on the walls. The traffic to and from the apartment is horrible as well, and rightly so as there are undoubtedly a large number of people with out proper education on how to drive a vehicle in the area. The nearby stores are trashy, the complex is always messy, people party and leave their ---- everywhere, the dumpsters are not emptied frequently enough, and everyone in Austin has the gate code (which hasn't changed in my two years living there). Sure it is cheap to live there, but understandably so... it's HORRIBLE. The roommate matching service doesn't even CONSIDER the form that you fill out in what you want for a roommate, and the office won't work with you once they screw you over. I don't know if it is college kids or what at this complex (of which I am one, but I still don't understand this), but people don't seem to know how to park out here either. Within a month of purchasing my new car, I had a ding in the door from people parking too close, trying to squeeze in a tiny space as the result of someone else who doesn't understand the concept of parking between the lines (TONS of people are like that here... but particularly the ------- with a black 350Z).
This is a thug part of town, and students are as good as it gets at Campus Estates. They are slowly being taken over by general population of the area, which is, to be frank, of a much lesser caliber.
If you have any taste, need peace to sleep, hate constant frustrations with your management/maintenance, like to feel safe, and don't want to nearly get killed on the ghetto road to your apartment, I highly recommend you keep on looking (and avoid SE Austin in general... NOT WORTH THE CHEAP PRICE!). I could go on forever, but I think you get the point.
