Very unpleasant place to live

Don't believe all the nice things about the apartment management tells you when you first come to the leasing office. The actual room I got was a far cry from the model they showed to me. I must say my experience from living here for a year was definitely not worth the rent I pay for although it's cheap. We were outraged when the management violated the lease terms by requiring us residents to set up account ourselves with City of Austin to pay electricity (before it was handled through Campus Estates) halfway through my stay here, not offering any reason on why they had done so. When I went to complain, the staff simply shrugged off by saying it's not their responsibility and that they had sent out notices regarding this issue one month prior to the switchover. How can we be held liable for something that was not even on our signed lease and that we did not give our consent to'! There was no room for compromise and one of us had to put down our name to have the power turned on. What's more ridiculous was that the staff said to me that I was the one who's willing to take the risk to set up the account under my name and collect payments from my roommates. Well, how am I supposed to live in an apartment without eletricity when all of your roommates that were "matched up with" by CE are all reluctant to take any action at all'! Needless to say, this has created many hassles on my part and other account holders like me as I believe. What's also annoying is that the lease is very inflexible: it can only go till the beginning of January, May, or August and you cannot have any other say on this. The management knows that most students won't be done with school until mid May and by having those intended to sign to May move out at the beginning of the month instead, we can only change our plan and sign to August and pay an extra of two month's rents. Very smart move on that, management.

Please, do your homework before you move here. The management people at CE are not trustworthy, and if you still decide to live here, all I can say is 'good luck'.
