THIS PLACE WILL TRY TO RIP YOU OFF!!

Years at this apartment: 2005 - 2008
I moved in here my freshman year (2005) because I fell for their stupid gimmicks about how it's the greatest place in Austin and they have all these "wonderful" amenities. On the very first day I moved in, I walked into what was supposed to be a furnished apartment, but instead I walked into a room filled with boxes which were filled with furniture that we were supposed to assemble, which isnt so bad since it was brand new. The worst part was that there wasnt a mattress on my bed and when I went to tell this to the office they said that I could wait for a new one or go near the dumpster and get one of the old ones!! THEN about 3 months after living there, my apartment gets broken into and when we asked to transfer (the locks had been broken in the apartment), they kept telling us that there were no empty rooms. However, when we get our friends to call and pretend that they really needed a place to move into right away, the management was so happy and eager to show them around and was willing to put them in an apartment that same day! Our washing machine also flooded the apartment and management put a HUGE fan in the apartment for about a week and told it that they were just going to "blow dry" the place. I quickly moved out that first year and moved to Longhorn Landing, which by the way is practically HEAVEN compared to University Estates (Campus Estates' new name).
So now it's my junior year and I decided to move back to University Estates since they were the only place offering a 9 month lease at the time I signed and it is the WORST decision I could have made! Our AC broke and they said that they wouldnt come and fix it because the temperature wasnt above 80 degrees outside. After about a week and a half when the temperature finally did reach 80, they said that they would look at it, but they might not get it fixed since they would have to order parts. After I called their head company and reported this, it only took them 10 minutes to come to the apartment and fix the AC. The worst part of my experience this time around is that they keep accusing me of not paying my rent. So, about every 2 months, I have to go into the office with a copy of all my checks and show them that they messed up because I have NEVER skipped a month of rent.
In summary, this is the worst place to live if you are a college student and trying to focus on school. The management here does not care about any of the tenants and the maintenance takes FOREVER to come fix anything. If for some reason you HAVE to live here, my advice is to make sure you keep a copy of all your checks and all the payments that you've made to them as well as any correspondence you may have had with them. Also, get renters insurance. For about $20 a month, it's definitely worth it since half of the people who live in this complex are drug dealers and thieves who live off of what they sell and steal. My friend has a drug dealer living next to her right now and she's witnessed some SERIOUS drug deals.
