I read all these people bitching about Canyon Oaks...then look that they lived there for like 2 years! If it was THAT bad, you should have moved!!

It?s true, there were a string of fires there when I lived there. The first fire was across the parking lot from my building. The second was right behind us, and the third was two floors down from me. I used to joke with my friends that somebody was out to get me...and they were getting closer.

But it?s true, Canyon Oaks is a --------. But what ISN?T east of I-35 on Riverside'

There are some plusses to living there.

1. Within walking distance is the Beverage Barn, that glorious yellow building that provides cold beer.

2. Late night drinking' Taco Cabana is right up the street. Always packed, but always good. Nothing beats tacos at 4am when you?re trashed.

3. The Backroom (aka, the Bathroom). It?s a club that is within walking distance. True, the Backroom is where the scum of the earth hang out, along with some late 1980s heavy metal freaks that haven?t been told that big hair and leather aren?t cool anymore...but it?s still a bar! You can?t beat being able to stumble home from a place so close.

Granted, all my plusses involve drinking. It?s a given that if you live in Canyon Oaks, you are going to school. That?s what you?re supposed to do in school. Drink!

And all these complaints about loud neighbors' That was us. All summer long, we would gather on the porch and drink the night away. We were on the third floor and our neighbors would join us. The downstairs neighbors, they would join us too. Sometimes we picked up some stragglers that were wandering the parking lot looking for another party, or maybe they were just lost. In either case, they would often come up and drink with us. Too many sun rises were witnessed sitting on the hard plastic Wal-Mart chairs on the front porch.

So, the conclusion' Personally, I would not move back there. I?m not that old, but I have done my time at Canyon Oaks. It?s best to leave that experience for somebody else. If you?re a student, party-person, and young...Canyon Oaks is for you. If you?re an adult, have a family, or like to be left alone in the quiet...stay far away from this place. It will corrupt you and your children.
