I almost got shot here

This place is absolutely disgusting. When we moved in, there was paint splattered everywhere (appliances, mirrors, etc.) and no screen door on our balcony. It took us two weeks of constant badgering to finally get one. The pilot light on our oven went out literally every day, and they wouldn?t fix or replace it. Our kitchen window was cracked and wouldn?t open, which they also refused to replace. The window in my bedroom wouldn?t close all the way, and no one bothered to fix it. There was no insulation around our windows or doors, and some of the planks in our balcony were sagging and you couldn?t step on them. And oh, the roaches!

The noise is terrible. My apartment was right behind The Backroom, Kaos, etc., and that alley was always loud. You hear people driving through with their stereos up all day and night.

My neighbor was burgalarized, and there was a fight outside my front door. Around 20 people were gathered, and the moment I made it inside and closed the door, a gun was fired. The car parked right next to mine was broken into one night.

The management doesn?t care at all about you. Half of them don?t even speak coherent English. My roommate and I agreed on a price of $729 in the spring, gave them the deposit and everything, and when we returned at the end of the summer they had us pay $879. What could we do' We had just showed up in town and had nowhere to live and only days before school started.

Our lease went through the end of July, and when we moved out the end of June, even though we had already paid July?s rent, they said we were "skipping out" and evicted us. The lock they put on the door was a joke, though, and I easily opened it up so we could retrieve the rest of our things. We were caught, but they didn?t do anything because they knew they couldn?t.

And, of course, some building is always on fire. Just don?t live off E. Riverside.
