Perspective from a new resident

I understand that most of these reviews are written by people on their way out, so it's possible that they are venting. I'd like to give my opinions on this place as a new resident.

I've been here for about a week, and at this point, I would not reccomend it to anyone. My apartment is large (900 sq ft) and, for the most part, nice, but it's the little things that are bothering me...

I have seen more cockroaches here than I have ever seen in one place in all of my life. Nightly, my cat will bring me at least two cockroaches that she has caught. On our first night here, it was 5. I think this may be attributed to the fact that our downstairs bathroom has either, termite damage, or water damage from an over-flowed toilet that sat without notice for a long time. I call this damage because, the baseboard behind the toilet is missing, and the door sills in this room are rotten at the bottom. Because of this, roaches have free reign to walk out of the walls and from under the foundation, into our home.

The wiring in the back bedroom and upstairs bathroom is shoddy. I think they're still using aluminum wiring here. My lights will flicker and when I plug anything in, I can hear what sounds like a 'live wire' vibrating inside the wall. On a possibly related note - there have been two fires here in the past.

My toilet in the upstairs bathroom will not flush. This is because the bar inside that lifts the chain and suction cup to release the water into the bowl is rusted and the metal is bent.

Small stuff --
My top deadbolt on the door (the one that locks from the inside) will not lock, the hole in the door frame does not match up. (TAA states, lawfully, you must have working door locks)

My stove burners were missing 3 drip pans. I bought these myself.

The padlock on the storage closet outside was broken off. I bought my own to replace it.

I have contacted the apartment manager about all of this. She wrote a work order but no maintenence arrived. This was a week ago.

Some other notes---

If you are racist, do not like --------- or ------- Americans, do not bother moving here. (Or anywhere near me for that fact).

If you are nervous around people who speak spanish, or you have no 'street smarts', you will never feel safe here.

There are at least 5 ice-cream trucks in the neighborhood a day. Otherwise I do not hear anything at all.
