I initially took a short term lease on a furnished one-bedroom thinking I would be moving in 3-4 months. I ended up extending my lease for another 6 months and may even stay longer. The apartment has worked out great for me. It is well-maintained and quiet, despite being right on Lamar. And the location is great -- very convenient to I-35, 183, Mopac, etc. The management takes very good care of you: if anything is in need of attention, Pauline (the manager) ensures that the problem is fixed very quickly. There is a nice pool in the back with grills for cook-outs and good laundry facilities. In my opinion, this is probably the best value for the money you can find.
