Of the first 4 months that my roommate and I lived there, one or the other of our rent checks were lost 3 times.
When I went in to the office to obtain an receipt, I saw piles of papers and personal checks, some of which were spilling onto the floor. That explains it, then! The senile office lady was extremely rude on every occaision I had the pleasure of interacting with her, but particularly when I started demanding receipts.
Despite the fact that my roommate and I had to bring copies of our bank statements to the office every month, we were charged late fees for the 'missing' rent payments (that had already cleared the bank). Even after we prooved that we'd payed for a particular month, we were still accruing late fees and other assorted charges. When I called Lois, the property manager, in regards to these fees, she actually hung up on me after I politely asked for the phone number of her supervisor. She left rude, accusatory notes almost every other week on our door in regards to our 'delinquent payments'.
After this woman was fired, a new manager (Stephanie, I believe') called me to confirm my notice to vacate when my lease was up. While I had her on the phone, I asked her if she could tell me what the charges my roommate and I still owed were for, and told her that if she could answer that, we would pay them. She told me that she'd look in to it, and if she found a legitimate answer, she'd call me back. I never heard from her again.
Twice during my 6-month stay, there were abandoned vehicles taking up parking spaces along the side of my building. One was seriously vandalized--broken windows, glass strewn about the parking lot, etc.
The pedestrian gate is broken. The key that the office gives you for it doesn't open its lock. The key pad for the front gate is on the wrong side of the road, so traffic runs backwards as well. Residents will drive on the left, while visitors will unknowingly drive on the right, inviting all kinds of accidents.
There is a colony of roughly 8930498230948 stray cats that live near the dumpsters. They're constantly breeding and trying to get hit by cars.
I lived on the second story, where there are beams supporting the safety rail that run from the patio to the roof. The one in front of my apartment was loose, and moved a good 4-6 inches in each direction with hardly any force. The fence was unbolted in one spot, which maintenence did nothing about.
Also, they wouldn't put new screens in despite the fact that they were bent and/or broken upon move-in, and my cat got out twice because of this.
