Cheap but (of course) there are obvious drawbacks

Ok I'll start with the obvious advantages of living here:
-Affordable pricing for Travis Heights (even though they've started to charge more than they used to, rent is nowhere near the price at the Madrid or Newning Oaks)
-Small complex, mostly quiet except for a few poorly trained/cared for dogs (the dog directly across the street and the dog on the east side of the complex are both LOUD, they bark at every dog that walks by)
-Mostly considerate neighbors (this is changing a lot as more long-term tenants move out and more of the hipster/college crowd move in)
So the negatives
-First and foremost the "onsite" manager is incredibly unpleasant. Her communication skills could be most aptly described as overly aggressive (bordering on hostile). Cutting to the chase, if you live here you'll probably spend a lot of time trying to avoid her in the parking lot. Not only is she lazy, she's notorious for lying. If you try to contact her unsuccessfully you can be sure that you'll hear some half-baked excuse before anything close to the truth. I wouldn't hold out hope for her being replaced or losing this supposed responsibility, several tenants have complained to Goodwin Management but they have no interest in hearing about it. I don't know, who she knows (I think the owner of the complex who lives in California), but they want her there despite how unpleasant she makes the place.
-This is an aging complex. You'll mostly likely have a lot of things that need to be fixed, and the expediency of repair depends on how well you can deal with a hostile apartment manager.
-As far as general upkeep of the complex goes, I'd describe it as poor. The laundry room is filthy and the manager doesn't ever clean it (she just leaves creepy "So You're Going to Hell" magazines in there).
All in all, I enjoyed living here, but I am not easily intimidated. This may sound crazy but If you move in here, I would recommend showing absolutely no weakness (don't be overly polite, just firm and basically cordial) as the manager will use at as an excuse to walk all over you and treat you like you've never made a rent payment on time (when you actually have never missed one).
