Years at this apartment: 2008 - 2009
I rented a one bedroom here when I moved to Austin from DFW. Like all places, it has its good and bad features, but overall, it's a pretty good place to live, and a great value for the money.
The Good:
*The price--I paid $495 a month, which I thought was a great price for a one-bedroom. I checked around, and this seemed to be a pretty good deal compared to other apartments in the area.
*The floorplan--The bedroom was a little small, and I didn't have much water-pressure, but everything else was great. I lived on the third floor, so I had really high vaulted ceilings. The fireplace was a little odd (I would have rather just had the wall-space, honestly), but it didn't bother me too much. The living room was very large, and I had a nice walk-in closet. The outside storage was very large as well. The apartments seemed to be pretty old, but I think that they were pretty well maintained.
*Maintenance--I only had to call maintenance once for a leaky faucet, but they had it fixed by the time I got home from work. I never had any other problems.
*Utility bills--my electric bill generally ran from $55-80 dollars, and my water bill was generally $10-15. This always seemed okay to me.
*The office staff--I don't know why everyone seems to complain about them. The two ladies who worked in the office while I lived there were both usually really pleasant, although I normally only saw them when I went in to pay rent.
*Safety--I never had any problems.
The Less Than Good:
*The Area--If you live in Austin, you probably already know that the Rundberg/Lamar area isn't really the best. I never had any trouble with crime, but the whole neighborhood is extremely congested. Traffic is a nightmare, because there are always so many people driving up and down Lamar.
*The Hot Tub/Pool--It doesn't work. I found this a little disappointing, but I don't think I ever would have used it anyway. The pool area is surrounded by trees, so don't expect to get much tanning done.
*The Laundry Facility--There's nothing particularly bad about it, but the machines are old, and sometimes it was hard to find an empty machine. They never ate my quarters or anything, though.
*The HEB Around the Corner--After a while, I just stopped going. I would drive a little further to go to a different grocery store. This one is just too crowded all the time.
Like I said, all in all, I thought living at a Country Place was a good value and a good experience. I now live with a roommate, so I was able to afford something a little more upscale, but if I'm ever living on my own again and have to downsize, I'll definitely consider living here again.
